In 98xx you don’t really have a certain mission. Instead, you are going to gain access to an unknown desktop with the icons of pretty standard programmes on it. Thus, the gameplay is pretty diverse, as in each app you will have to complete various tasks.
In the full version of the game, you will have a choice between thirteen different apps. You will find the local version of Paint, Documents, Photo Gallery and other things that you will need to investigate. The first app that you are offered to open is the Jumping Julian game, which looks like a simple platformer from the start. However, if you reach a decent score here, you will notice strange things happening. At some point you may even discover that a fatal error occurred. Restart the system and you will immediately notice the difference.
The Photo Gallery in 98xx is even more bizarre and disturbing then the previous programme. You are going to see a couple of ordinary photos, without any logical link between them. However, later you will be able to find out what connects all these photos and who is depicted on them.
From the first sight 98xx may seem like a very peaceful game. A cheerful background with a super green tree and beautiful blue sky, an ordinary set of programmes that look nothing like suspicious. Seemingly, what can go wrong? Despite all the outer innocence, 98xx will keep you in constant tension all the time, as you never know where the evil is going to come from. Constant error will tell you that you are close to the explanation of all the weird stuff that you have faced before.
The quests in the project are easy, but the difficulty of this game lies in another thing. You may accomplish all the figure matching and answer all the creepy questions in the appropriate app, but how do you get everything together? The only way to reach the truth is to figure out who created this software and with what purpose.
It is hard to leave brilliant screamers behind, too. They are so menacing that by the time you reach the last programme, you will be ready for everything. Or at least you may think so. In any case, it is better to explore all the icons that are on the desktop before going to the web sites. This will allow you to understand who was the owner of the computer.
